SUMMER 2004
XWRI 104-01: Comic Book Scriptwriting
Monday evenings, 7:45 - 9:15pm
Beginning June 14 - August 9
Georgetown University main campus, Washington DC
Instructor: A. David Lewis
(Open to both current GU students
and non-GU participants.)
Like any movie, films such as Spider-Man, X-Men, The Road to Perdition, Ghost World, From Hell, Batman, Men In Black, or Hellboy all had screenplays before they were filmed; the comic books on which they were each based also required polished, formatted scripts before they were drawn. Whether it is all being done by one writer-artist or by a team of creators, scripting comic books is a fascinating exercise for any writer and something of a lost art for aspiring comic professionals. This course will take students of all experience levels through prime examples of excellence in comic book scriptwriting, a variety of styles and formats, advice from the experts, and through to a final draft of their very own comic book story!
(In addition, check out the other Summer '04 offering "Examining Comic Books as Literature" with A. David Lewis.)
